Taking a giant leap in strengthening power transmission and distribution system, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Tuesday dedicated the Ring Transmission grid station to the people of Punjab worth Rs 1,700 crore
After inaugurating and laying foundation stones of various projects costing Rs 1,802.43 crore in Sangrur district, Sukhbir said that after making Punjab power surplus state, now the state Government has set the mission to strengthen and upgrade power transmission and distribution (T&D) system for uninterrupted power supply besides exporting it to adjoining states and neighbouring countries like Pakistan.
“The power generated by newly-commissioned thermal plants would be inter-connected to this first ring transmission system by 1620 KM high capacity power lines,” said Sukhbir. He added that Punjab was all set to enhance power distribution capacity to 7,000 MW from 5,400 MW as more than Rs 2,000 crore was spent in this regard.
To facilitate power export to Pakistan, “all power grids in the state have been inter-connected including all power plants and this ring grid would play a vital role in power transmission, besides being helpful in achieving target to reduce T&D losses to 15 per cent by 2015-16”.
