Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has been tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Tuesday.
Sukhbir, sharing the information in the social media, asked the people who came in touch with him in the last few days to isolate themselves and get a Covid test done.
“I would like to inform everyone that I have tested COVID positive,” he said in a tweet. “My health is fine and as per protocol I have isolated myself. I request those who came in contact with me during the last few days to isolate themselves and get tested for COVID -19.”
Sukhbir has been addressing party rallies since past two days. A day before, he had addressed a party rally, under ‘Punjab Mangda Jawaab’ campaign, in Tarn Taran, after addressing one at Jalalabad.
Several senior leaders, including Bikram Singh Majithia, Gulzar Singh Ranike, Virsa Singh Valtoha, among others, had come in his contact.
Meanwhile, the SAD has postponed all its rallies till March 31 including Wednesday’s scheduled rally at Mukerian.
“SAD has decided to postpone its protest rallies under the Punjab Mangda Jawab campaign launched by the party to force the Congress government to answer for reneging on all the promises made to the people till March 31. The decision was taken after SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal tested positive for COVID-19,” said party spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema.
Cheema said that fresh dates for the rallies would be announced in due time, while Wednesday’s rally, scheduled to be held at Mukerian, had also been postponed.
“SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal was in good spirits and keeping good health. The party is, however, going as per health protocols and has suspended its rallies till the completion of the isolation period of the SAD president,” he said.
