Punjab Education Minister Om Parkash Soni on Thursday said that the students of Class XI and XII will get the reading material of history chapter-wise in the next 15 days.
Soni, announcing the decision after the meeting with the expert committee led by Dr Kirpal Singh, said that considering the future of the students, it is decided in the joint meeting that chapter-wise learning material will be provided in 15 days to the students and it will also be uploaded on the Punjab School Education Board's website.
Committee has also decided that entire book will be printed by December, said Soni.
Soni said that Punjab’s history is distinguished and Sikh warriors played a key role to give the direction to course of the history. “Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh's heartfelt desire is that the children of Punjab have the knowledge about their rich culture and heritage. Thus, he had set up the expert committee to rectify the flaws from the history books of Class XI and XII,” he said.
During the meeting, expert committee chairperson Dr Kirpal Singh said that Punjab has a profound influence on this entire region's history. “Today, our youth should be well aware of their distinguished history. They should have the knowledge of their elders so that they can make their characters like their great elders. Therefore, the proposed books should have the content which inspired our younger generation,” he said.
Regarding books’ profile, expert committee member Dr Indu Banga said that while preparing the history book of Class XII, it will be kept in mind that when students study the history of Punjab, they will also be familiar with contemporary Indian history too.
Soni assured the expert committee to provide all types of support so that the history books should be printed in stipulated time.
