Stoppage of power supply by Adani Power politically motivated: Cong

Ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in Haryana, the Congress seems to be in no mood to let go off an opportunity to secure political mileage and to hit out at the Opposition BJP.

The party on Wednesday alleged that the stoppage of power supply by Adani Power seems politically motivated to deliberately create a crisis for the ruling Congress in Haryana just before the Assembly elections in the State. The Congress has now decided to take up this ‘contentious matter’ as poll issue in the Assembly elections.

In a statement issued, the party said that Adani belongs to Gujarat ruled by the BJP. BJP is also the ruling party at the Centre and is contesting the Assembly Elections in Haryana alone after its alliance with the Haryana Janhit Congress came to an end on the issue of seat sharing.Congress is the main obstacle for the BJP in the ensuing elections and any crisis in the State could work in favour of the BJP. Incidentally, Adani stopped supplying power to Haryana recently despite all payments made by Haryana Government to it on time, alleged the Congress.

The Power Utilities have blamed Adani Power for stopping power supply, saying that the company resorted to the move to cut electricity supply from its power plants just two days after the Supreme Court stayed an order of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEl) granting it compensatory tariff.

Adani had asked Haryana to increase the payment for power supply which the Government had refused. Adani then decided to stop power supply completely to Haryana, saying power supply to Haryana was discontinued due to the breach in contract conditions by the State Government, said the party.

Sensing a ‘BJP conspiracy’ in the whole issue, the Congress has now decided to launch an awareness campaign in the State to point out to the people how the BJP had influenced the decision of the Adani company to create power shortage in Haryana to get undue advantage from its discomfiture, said the Congress. The Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has shot off a letter to the Prime Minister blaming Adani Power for stopping power supply to Haryana. He also sought immediate intervention of the Prime Minister into the matter.
