The Mandi Police is on tenterhooks after the recovery of 22 allegedly stolen luxury cars from Sundernagar, Nerchowk, Randhara, Rani Ki Bain and and other places of Balh Valley in this district during the past two weeks.
These vehicles were operating with fake documents. Some cars were bearing numbers of condemned vehicles. This is the biggest haul of selling stolen cars unearthed by the Mandi Police so far in the past 2 decades.
The state police is on high alert and all luxury vehicles entering into Himachal Pradesh were being thoroughly checked at the entry points to the hilly state.
Prem Kumar Thakur, SP, said intensive interrogation was being done of Raju Gupta and Mahender Gupta from whom the stolen Innova cars were recovered to trace the identity of the real owners and which could lead to unearthing the inter-state gang of luxury car thieves.
The SP said on verification of fake car numbers from Bangalore, it was found that their cars were with the genuine owners, but the engine and the chassis number were different proving the fact the cars recovered in Himachal Pradesh were stolen. The police has given the fake number of the recovered cars to the respective states for further verification.
