With a twin objective of facilitating the NRIs and giving them necessary information regarding their
issues relating to Punjab Government, the State Government has decided to setup NRI Sabha in each district across the State.
Punjab is contemplating to form such bodies in each district with a view to safeguard rights of NRIs and making them aware about the exclusive policies and programs for non-resident Punjabis, said an official spokesperson.
He said that for NRI Affairs Minister Tota Singh has given his nod to the proposal and proceedings would initiate soon to setup NRI Sabhas at district level.
Minister was also keen to resolve the pendency of cases or issues pertaining to NRIs in minimum time, said the spokesperson, adding that instructions in this regard have also been issued to all Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, IG NRI Affairs, Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police so the NRIs could not have to face harassment.
Giving details of units to be setup at district level, the spokesperson said that the staff of NRI Sabha in each district would provide necessary information to non-resident Punjabis.
“Eleven exclusive NRIs police stations have been setup in the State to ensure speedy and time-bound redressal of their issues. Punjab Government is fully committed to safeguard the rights and interests of NRIs that is why NRIs police stations, special revenue courts, fast track courts, NRI Sammelan and media campaigns were being adopted,” he said.
He added that a
special web portal for NRIs has been launched so that NRIs can track their application along with getting current status of that. Minister has also issued strict instructions to resolve the cases of NRIs well in time and laxity in these cases would not be tolerated, he added.
