To study the scope and opportunities to impart skill training to youth especially in the rural sector, the Punjab Government would soon send a team of senior officers, headed by the State Chief Secretary VK Singh, to headquarters of leading IT company Infosys at Bangalore.

The decision was taken by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during a meeting with Infosys chairman NR Naryana Murthy at Chief Minister’s office on late Saturday evening.  Badal, during the discussion, asked Murthy for his valuable advice on imparting effective skill training to the Punjabi youth. Responding, Murthy suggested to send a team of officers to Bangalore where they could interact with company’s experts to find workable strategy in this regard.

Acting swiftly, Badal directed the Chief Secretary to send a team of the officers from the concerned departments under his direct supervision. Badal also thanked the Infosys chairman for establishing a state-of-the-art campus over 50 acres at IT city Mohali saying that it would prove to be an asset for establishing a new horizon in the IT sector. Expressing concern over the present situation of the rural youth in the State, Badal said that despite of being known for their hard work and sincerity, Punjabi youth was suffering due to changed scenario and it was the need of the hour to impart skill training to them for their survival.

He said that rural sector had been continuously being ignored by the policy makers without realising the fact that majority of country’s population reflected this sector and if it was not being redressed at the earliest it would lead to serious consequences on the economic as well as social fronts. Referring to rural business processing outsourcing scheme of Nationalised Banks as a source of employment generation for rural youth, Infosys chairman said that Rajasthan Government had implemented this model.
