Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to hold a protest rally at Jalandhar on March 18 to mark the completion of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s one year in office.
The saffron party would also come out with a report card exposing “misrule” of the Congress Government in the State.
Announcing this, the State party president Vijay Sampla said the BJP Yuva Morcha will also hold a programme on March 23 in Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar to mark the Martyrdom Day of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
Besides, the SC wing of the party will hold a program on the birth anniversary of Baba Sahib Bhim Rao Ambedkar on April 14, he added.
The decisions were taken after a two-hour-long meeting of the State office bearers in the morning and Core Group members in the evening at the state party headquarters in Chandigarh on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Sampla also inducted the Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab unit joint secretary Deepak Sood into BJP fold in the presence of senior party members.
Sood had unsuccessfully contested Assembly elections from Rajpura.
Backing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “independent soldier” remark against Capt Amarinder Singh, Sampla said that the CM’s occasional outbursts, interviews and statements against Congress high command during the last few years were sufficient enough to prove PM’s view point.
“The fact that Punjab cabinet expansion, which was supposed to take place today didn’t take shape makes it even more evident because CM Amarinder’s decision doesn’t bear the stamp of approval of the Congress high command,” said Sampla.
Commenting on the recent civic bodies’ election results in the state, Sampla said that it wasn’t the mandate of the people. “Instead, the Congress Government misused the State machinery and used all unfair means to win the elections. Had the elections been fair, we would have won easily,” he added.
