The NRI wing of Punjab Police on Sunday issued directions to the Commissioners and the district police chiefs that all NRI-related cases being investigated by them should be disposed of in a transparent and time-bound manner.
Besides, the list of such cases along with their status reports has also been sought. Punjab IGP (NRI police wing) Gurpreet Kaur Deo issued directions regarding this to all commissioners and senior superintendents of police (SSPs) while presiding over a meeting to review the status of under-investigation cases of NRIs in the State.
Currently, there are about 120 under-investigation cases related to NRIs in the state, Deo said. She said the districts where NRI police stations do not exist would also be monitored by the NRI police wing. The cases where the progress of investigation is not found satisfactory will be transferred to the NRI police stations.

Three sub-divisional Dy SPs designated as DSP (NRI) will monitor and investigate the disposal of NRI related cases and will be located at Jalandhar, ludhiana and Moga, she said. Sukhbir Badal wants that the NRI police stations in the state shall have jurisdiction over all 27 police districts in the state, which shall be done shortly through a government notification, she said.
She said that nodal officer of Inspector rank at NRI Wing office would monitor each case in time bound manner under close supervision by Assistant Inspector General of Police or the DIG NRI and Women Wing. IGP further said that NRI Police Wing has established 24x7 Punjab Police Helpline for NRIs 0091-2298543 to redress their complaints and other than this they could also register their complaints at official website of the department-www.nri.pbpolice.com.
