SPV to be formed for power generation in Haryana

Published on:

With a view to tap the potential of solar power sector, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) is being formed by Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) and Haryana Power Generation Corporation limited (HPGCl) for setting up of solar parks in Haryana. The SPV will be christened as ‘Saur Urja Nigam Haryana limited’ (SUN Haryana).

Managing Director, HSIIDC Sudhir Rajpal on Wednesday signed a joint venture agreement with Managing Director of HPGCl MKV Rama Rao to develop solar parks or solar power projects in Haryana with an aim to promote the inexhaustible natural recourse and renewable energy in the State.

Giving information, Industries Minister Captain Abhimanyu said that  the joint venture would be with the subsidiary company of HSIIDC and an equity of 51 per cent and the balance 49 per cent equity would be held by HPGCl.  He said that the survey of some potential project sites in the State has already been carried out.

He said that the company would provide “ready to install” sites for solar power projects and parks in Haryana to potential solar power producers. The Government of India has already accorded in principle approval for setting up of 500 MW solar parks in the state under National Solar Mission.

The Central   and the State Governments are promoting generation of power from solar energy and during ‘Happening Haryana Global Investors Summit’, several investors had evinced keen interest in making investments in solar power sector in Haryana. The State Government has also formulated Haryana Solar Power Policy 2016 to promote the generation of power from solar energy, said the Minister.

Solar energy has come to be accepted as a major source of energy for the future. Specifically in India, it is expected that coal reserves of the country won’t last longer than 2040-50. Oil reserves across the world are also depleting and have their own pollution factors associated with it.

The state is blessed with high solar radiation levels with more than 300 days of clear sunlight and seeks to harness the untapped and inexhaustible solar energy potential. In an environment where the demand for energy and power is growing

rapidly, Haryana seeks to build on renewable energy and be a part of the drive that is taking a firm shape in the entire country, added the Minister.
