A three-day State-level Women Sports Championship began here with  Deputy Commissioner Nikhil Gajraaj  addressing the participating teams of 21 districts.

Gajraaj said the objective behind the sports events under Panchayat Yuva Krida Khel Abhiyaan (PYKKA) was to hunt for talent at village-level so that girls could show their performance and bring laurels to the State and nation in various national and international championships.  The Championship is being organised jointly by district administration and Sports and Youth Affairs Department at  Dronacharya  Stadium here.

Gajraaj said about 1,400 girls were participating in the age group of less than 16 years in first phase under the PYKKA scheme. He said that State Government was promoting sports in a big way.  He said that 12 residential, three day-boarding, 12 B category and two other nurseries were functional to hunt talent in the early age.

Similarly, 13 day-boarding and three residential sports academies had also been established in the state. In addition, 73 sports wings have also been set up for promising players in the state.
