To promote sports culture, Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Department has selected 30 national games for which State Institute of Sports Development Centres will be established according to demand in each district.
To begin with, six famous games namely hockey, volleyball, football, basketball, kabaddi and kho-kho would be covered. District Sports Facilitation Centres would also be set up to facilitate coaches and players at district level. These centers would have the facilities of sports club, library etc, said Additional Chief Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs KK Khandelwal on Wednesday .
While addressing a seminar organized on ‘Present Scenario and Future Potential of Hockey in Haryana’ at Sonipat, he sought assistance from hockey coaches in policy making so as to further promote hockey in the State.
He said that seminar would be organised on all selected 30 national games wherein discussion about promotion of that particular game as well as to get desired results would be held. Improvement in coaching facilities, capabilities of players and physical fitness would also be discussed in these seminars. Besides, the games in which players can win maximum medals and the areas where a particular game is famous would also be explored.
Khandelwal also discussed about various aspects of hockey infrastructure required for promotion of this game. He said that it is essential to promote the same at school level. Participation of private school needs to be enhanced.
He said that shortage of sports coaches would soon be removed. Short term courses would also be launched so as to update coaches and trainers with new rules as well as latest techniques. And, schools PTI and DPI would also be invited in these courses so that they could also provide coaching to players.
Hockey centres would be set up in every district and this would likely be started in the month of September. All these centres would have coaches and other required facilities, he added. Khandelwal said that a State level Sports Academy would be set up which would coordinate with the district level academies.
He asked Hockey Haryana to take stern action to deal with cases of steroids. He made it clear that those who depict wrong age would be suspended immediately. Aadhaar card can be used to ascertain the actual age.
Khandelwal said that that adequate hockey kits have been purchased this year and coaches could get the same from District Sports Officer concerned. He disclosed that ‘Khel-Haryana’ magazine would soon be published to encourage sportspersons. He also directed to create Whatsapp group for sharing information about new rules and techniques. Sports coaches should share such information and update themselves with latest rules and techniques.
He added that Rs five lakh each would be allocated for organizing sports championships at district level.
The State Government has announced to organize prize distribution function for Asiad, National and other Players of Haryana on July 28 at Panchkula.
