Haryana Police on Thursday admitted that cases of cow smuggling have increased in the state and decided to create Special Police Squads in every district to prevent it.
Each squad in a district will be headed by an Inspector and will consist of one Sub-Inspector, one Assistant Sub Inspector, two Head Constables and twelve Constables. The squad will exclusively work for stopping the activities of cow smugglers.
A spokesperson of Haryana Police said two vehicles will be provided to each squad. The vehicle drivers would be well-trained in both offensive and defensive driving. As some instances of firing by cow smugglers have been reported in the past, these squad members will maintain good physical fitness and should be well trained in all aspects of policing. "Adequate communication equipment shall be provided to these squads. The names and cell phone numbers of the Squad Incharge will be well publicized and public should be made aware to report incidents of cow smuggling on 100 No. or to the District Inspector In-charge," the spokesman added.
These squads will report to their superiors in the district who will monitor the performance of these squads and submit consolidated report of all the districts of their jurisdiction to Police Headquarters on a fortnightly basis.
