The Haryana Government has directed its different departments to take measures to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue, as part of a special cleanliness drive from May 1 to June 15.

The Public Health Department has been directed to make all water pipes free of leakage throughout the State by June 15, Health Minister Anil Vij said while presiding over a meeting of the State level Malaria Working Committee for Inter-Sectoral Coordination. Vij also issued directions to the Health Department to do anti-larvae spray at all possible places where mosquitoes could breed.

He directed officials of the Urban local Bodies to issue notices to owners of all vacant plots in the urban areas to ensure cleanliness and make fogging machines available in all districts.

The Public Works Department (Buildings and Roads) has been told to fill up pits on the roads or near residential areas. “Participation of public representatives would be ensured in the drive. Besides, the Education Department has been directed to spread awareness among students of schools, colleges and other educational institutions about these diseases,” Vij said.

Vij has also directed all district hospitals to set up machines to conduct dengue test and blood component separators by May 31 to provide right treatment to patients suffering from dengue, chikungunya and vector borne diseases.

The Minister said that no private hospital would be allowed to declare a person as suffering from dengue until it is confirmed by a laboratory of a civil hospital in Haryana. Therefore, elaborate arrangements of ‘ElISA’ test has been made in all government district hospitals to confirm dengue. He said that machines for conducting dengue test and blood component separators would be provided in far places as per requirement.

The Minister also directed to set up special wards for affected patients and to maintain complete stock of necessary medicines.
