: UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address a rally on March 27 in Chandigarh. She would be addressing her first rally in Chandigarh in support of party’s Chandigarh candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal.
A spokesperson of the party said that the Sonia Gandhi would be addressing a rally in support of party candidate in Sector 25 rally ground here on March 27.Bansal has been campaigning aggressively in the city much before he was officially declared as the party candidate for the Chandigarh lok Sabha seat.
With strong anti-incumbency mood among the electorate, Bansal would be facing a tough ballot fight this time.During 2009 lok Sabha polls, the four time MP Bansal had retained Chandigarh’s constituency recording a hat-trick on the seat and now, would be contesting for the seventh time from the city’s seat.
In the last general elections 2009, emerging as a clear winner from the ballot tussle of 14 candidates, Bansal had got a total of 1,61,042 votes and won the seat leading by 58,967 votes from his main rivals BJP candidate Satya Pal Jain at that time.
The controversy of Railway Board scam has already become a major election issue haunting the local MP in the election time here. The Opposition parties are already hitting out at Bansal on the issue of corruption during their election campaigns.
