The Police Control Room (PCR) has received around nine calls regarding dog bites in the city, after the Haryana and Punjab High Court’s direction made the UT Police Control Room helpline number, 100, available for the purpose.
The High Court passed an order on May 30 to open the police helpline number for complaints from city residents pertaining to dog bites. The decision was made by the HC as the dog bite helpline of the UT Administration has not been launched yet.
According to sources in the police department, a call was received from a city resident, who in his complaint said that the dog which had bitten him few days back was still roaming around in the neighbourhood and asked the police officials to take it away from the area as the canine might attack again.
Meanwhile, acting on the complaint, the PCR officials forwarded the complaint to the dog bite helpline and the concerned officials from the Municipal Corporation took proper action in the case.
Roshan lal, DSP Communication, UT Police said that after the orders of the High Court, we have made arrangements for controlling dog menace in the city. A separate register has been prepared for the purpose to keep record of dog bite complaints.
As soon as we receive a complaint regarding dog bite, the complaint is forwarded to the MC officials and there after, the dog control cell takes control of the situation. Any form of support required by the complainant for dog bite related issues will be taken care off by our staff, said the DSP Communication.
