Snooping issue: Cong calls it act of desperation

Amid the controversy of allegations of snooping by Haryana Government, the Congress on Sunday described the incident as an act of desperation by Manohar lal Khattar led State Government, borne out of its total and abject failure to fulfill any of the promises made to the people in the run-up to the Assembly polls.

Kiran Choudhry, leader of the Haryana Congress legislature Party said spying on own ministers showed that there was rift in the Cabinet and it was widening by the day.

She strongly condemned the ‘spying’ and tapping the phones and demanded a thorough investigation into the charges leveled by the Health Minister, Anil Vij, and leader of the Opposition, Abhay Chautala.

A day after Vij caught a 'CID officer' allegedly ‘spying’ on him, leader of Opposition in the state Assembly and INlD senior leader, Abhay Singh Chautala, alleged that his phones were being tapped and that he too was being spied on.

“After doing virtual somersaults on its promises during the last nine months, the BJP Government has now taken to ‘spying’ which brings out the saffron party in true colours,” Choudhry said.

Besides laying bare the undemocratic credentials of the BJP, this shows that the party and its government have no respect for the opinion of others, are averse to any opposition, and can go to any extent to stick to power, she said, reiterating her demand for a fair probe into the charges, she added.

Notably, a fresh tug of war between Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar and Health Minister Anil Vij started on Friday after Vij caught a CID official doing suspicious activities in his office. The CID official has been identified as Surender Kumar who was allegedly spying on Vij from last three months.
