A day after the arrest of killer cop Basant Kumar, the local police here on Monday recovered a Self loading Rifle, 17 rounds of bullets and a Swift Dezire car used by him in murdering his lover Sarita’s husband Sandeep and mother-in-law Roshni at village Deepalpur on April 18. The recoveries were made on the instance of Basant.
Sonepat DSP Ajit Singh on Monday informed that during police interrogation, Basant, the dismissed constable of Chandigarh Police, had revealed that he along with Sarita escaped to Haridwar after perpetrating the murders of Sandeep and Roshni.
“In a bid to protect himself from the police, Basant parked the car at a parking slot in Haridwar and visited Rishikesh, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Shimla and Chandigarh with Sarita. Weapons used in the crime was kept in the car,” said the DSP, adding that Basant had confessed to have indulged in the killings of Sandeep and Roshni.
The DSP informed Basant was on Monday produced before a local court which remanded him in judicial custody while Sarita was already in judicial custody.
“We have finished our investigation relating to the double murder in Deepalpur village, hence, the case file will soon be submitted in the court while the probe into the murder of Chandigarh Police Inspector, Sucha Singh, will be made by the Chandigarh police,” said Ajit Singh.
Basant Kumar alias Bunty accused of three murders, was arrested by special team of Sonepat Police from a hotel located at Pahar Ganj locality of national capital Delhi on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. He was nabbed along with his paramour Sarita.
Basant, a suspended constable of the Chandigarh Police, was carrying rewards of Rs1 lakh each announced by Chandigah police and Sonepat police.
