As the countdown of New Year begins, so does thoughts for what would be New Year resolution this year.

For youngsters of the city, the New Year resolution could be anything — studying more, leaving that smoke or the bottle or simply forget and forgive the past.

The Pioneer got interesting response from the youngsters of Tricity on their for their New Year resolution. A lot of them came up with a resolution of avoiding excessive use of technology. They thought this affects inter-personal relations and limits socialisation.

“I have a New Year resolution to come out from this ‘virtual world’ dependence and I think there is no better resolution than de-addiction from of mobile phones, laptops, Internet etc,” said Farhan, working as Investment Banker in Chandigarh The youngster said he had to carry out out most his work through Internet and using it was a compulsion rather than a choice.

“I have been so addicted to social networking that after my office work, I just log on to these sites. But this year, I plan to restrict this,” Farhan added.

Suchitra Raina, studying journalism in Panjab University said, “Our core motive in our life should be focused on our aims. As such I had never made any New Year resolution but this year I have this resolution to stay focused and limit excessive use of new technology like social networking etc”.

For the PU student, spreading smiles around, catching up with old friends and spending more time with family and welcome the New Year with newer possibilities would be the mantra to follow.

Radio Jockey Pratibha Kanojia is rather practical. She joined thousands for whom New Year Resolution remains only a resolution never to be implemented in the year. “Every year I come up with a New Year resolution, but it always remains unpracticed,” Pratibha says.

However, as a matter of habit, the radio jockey is again going for a New Year resolution this year also. “I have a resolution to enjoy natural beauty and travel a lot. I want to remain away from the virtual world of social networking, Twitter, Facebook etc. I don’t want to miss the real taste of practical world, Otherwise we would remain oblivious to the beauty of real and practical world,” she added.
