Accompanied by around 200 arhtiyas (commission agents) from Punjab, the state Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Wednesday sat on one day hunger-strike in Sangrur to express solidarity with the farmers protesting against the Centre’s three agriculture laws.“The agitation, started by farmers, has become a genuine mass movement and people across the sects are coming on their own to support this collective cause. Arhtiyas and farmers in Punjab share strong bonding for over hundred years. Farmer unions have also given a call for hunger strike and we are offering our support through this move,” said Singla. He added, “I would also appeal the Union Government to call the winter session of the Parliament and repeal these draconian laws. Since, these laws are an assault on the federal structure of our democracy, the Punjab Govt has negated them, but I feel this is not enough and the Union Govt must abrogate these laws completely.”Singla also expressed resentment against the “vindictive IT raids” on the leading arhtiyas of the state.“The Central Govt has stooped down to gutter level of politics as they have unleashed the vindictive IT raids against the arhtiyas who are offering their support to the farmers.
