Sikhs protested against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s residence on Monday over his remarks on the 1984 riots, demanding a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
The protesters carrying placards demanded from Rahul Gandhi to disclose names of those Congressmen which according to revelations made by him were “probably involved in 1984 riots” in which thousands of innocent Sikhs were massacred, and their properties and vehicles were looted and burnt.
Questioning the silence maintained by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, SAD’s Delhi unit chief Manjit Singh GK said, “Rahul Gandhi has made things easier for the Prime Minister, by revealing that some Congressmen were involved in the riots. He can now disclose the names of those Congressmen, throw them out of the party and initiate action against them as per provisions given in the law.”
“Now, the time has come when PM and Congress vice-president should plan and announce action against those Congressmen who charged the mobs to massacre innocent Sikhs,” said Manjit Singh reiterating their demand for setting up SIT to investigate riot cases closed without proper investigation all over the country, headed by a Supreme Court Judge. He also sought directions from the Supreme Court, that the riots related cases pending in different courts be decided in 90 days.
