Sidhu upset over denial of Cong ticket

Visibly upset over denying her the party ticket from Chandigarh, Congress leader Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Wednesday declared that she would campaign for the party nominee Pawan Bansal if he asked her to.

“I would have loved it if they had respected a lady trying to showcase her individual work,” said Dr Navjot Kaur while pointing that she left her medical profession to devote herself to politics.

Not hiding her disappointment, she asserted that she was not able to secure the ticket as she did nit

“lobbied” for it. “It is okay...That is how the party works,” she said.

Former MLA from Amritsar East constituency in Punjab, Dr Navjot Kaur has been campaigning, holding public meetings in Chandigarh in anticipation of a party nomination. However, the party had re-nominated the four-time MP and former Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal from Chandigarh.

“I don’t have anyone to represent me before the party leadership. I was a loner. I went and applied myself and I was fighting my own case,” she said.

Wife of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, Dr Navjot Kaur said that after applying for Chandigarh, she never thought about the possibility of contesting from anywhere else.

At the same time, she welcomed the “party’s choice” to field Bansal. “There is no competition because of his seniority. I welcome the decision. He is such a senior leader. It is not that he is a new leader,” she said.

Sidhu maintained that she would campaign for the party nominee “in case he needs me. I do not think he needs me. But if he calls me, I will fully support him”.
