A day after polling in Punjab, the cricketer turned politician, Navjot Singh Sidhu, on Thursday arrived in the city.
The BJP leader Sidhu had stayed away from the poll campaign of party’s candidate from Amritsar, Arun Jaitley. He did not even come to cast his vote in favour of Jaitley on the polling day on April 30, Wednesday.
This time, the three-time MP Navjot Sidhu was denied ticket, as Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his son Deputy Chief Minister Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal and Punjab Revenue Minister were not willing to extend support to Sidhu in the elections. BJP high command had replaced him with senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley to contest from Amritsar lok Sabha seat.
When Sidhu was asked why he had not joined the election campaign of Jaitley, he said that his absence went in favour of Jaitley.
He added, “I could not cast my vote in Amritsar, but my wife and my friends in Amritsar cast their votes in favour of Jaitley.” Sidhu said, “I am still loyal soldier of the party and would always bow before each decision of party high command whatever it gives me in the future”.
Sidhu reached Amritsar on Thursday for formal house warming ceremony of his new house. He spent maximum time in Havan Pooja (religious ceremony) in his newly built house after the house warming ceremony.
