Punjab’s ruling party Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday received a shot in the arm in the neighbouring Haryana, with the Haryana Janhit Congress’s State General Secretary Manjit Singh Kalanwali coming into the party fold.
SAD is contesting Haryana Assembly polls, scheduled for October 15, on two seats — Kalianwali and Ambala, in coalition with the Indian National lok Dal (INlD).Joining of HJC leader is said to be a major boost to the Akali Dal candidate from Kalanwali constituency Balkaur Singh Kalawali as Manjit has strong mass base in the area.
Manjit joined the party along with his senior party colleagues from Kalanwali including Kalanwali constituency president Ruldoo Singh Nambardar, urban president Kalanwali constituency Rajinder Singh Kataria, Block President Kalanwali Hardev Singh, zone in-charges Amarjit Singh and Iqbal Singh.Welcoming Manjit Singh and his supporters into party fold, SAD president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal said that he would further strengthen the party in Haryana.
He assured Manjit and his supporters that party would give them due place in the party. “SAD-INlD alliance is enjoying support from all sections of Haryana and I am confident that alliance would get clear majority in these elections,” he said.Describing his reasons to join SAD, Manjit said that HJC senior leadership has completely ignored the grass roots leaders and workers of the party. “They all are well aware of pro-people policies of Sukhbir Badal led SAD that is why they decided to join the party to expend its base in Haryana,” he said.
