Sarabjit is the son of Punjab and I am really shocked by the treatment meted out to him, Sukhbir Singh Badal, deputy Chief Minister of Punjab said here. He lashed out at the UPA Government at Center at their laxity in dealing with the affair.
Badal termed the attack as “sad”, saying the whole international community should take a note of it. “Government of India should take up this issue very strongly.”
Sukhbir said that the Central Government has failed the nation on more than one occasion and it has failed to keep a single friend at the international front given its faulty foreign policy. He said, “The country is looking for answers and it is time that Government of India should take up this issue strongly with Pakistan.”
On being questioned what he did during his last visit to the neighboring country, Badal said that he brought up the issue and did his level best to protect the interests of Sarabjit.
Badal said that the current UPA Government is the most indecisive Government at the Center since independence as a result of which we do not have a good relation with any nation and even a small nation like Maldives have lost trust in us.
Capt Amarinder condemns attack on Sarabjit
Chandigarh: Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh condemned the brutal and murderous assault on Sarabjit saying it was quite inhuman to treat someone in such a barbaric manner with the sole motive to kill him.
Expressing his sympathies with Sarabjit’s family, Capt Amarinder appealed to the Government of India to ensure that his life is saved at all costs, even if it meant getting him shifted out of Pakistan for proper treatment. Capt Amarinder said just because Sarabjit is on death row and his mercy petitions have been rejected does not provide anybody the licence to make such a brutal attempt on his life. “This shows a brutal and barbarian mindset of those who assaulted him”, he said, hoping Sarabjit to recover from coma at the earliest.
Capt Amarinder wanted that the Government of India lodge a strong protest with the Pakistan government over this incident, besides making proper arrangements for the family members to visit him there and be his side during the time of his treatment.
