Acting tough against the cops for their failure to act against bootleggers, Patiala SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu on Sunday placed an SHO and a police-post in-charge under suspension. Besides, the district police chief has also sought explanation from the concerned DSP for lack of control on his junior officers in his jurisdiction.
Patiala SSP suspended Samana Sadar police station Sub-Inspector Narayan Singh, and Mavi Kalan police post in-charge Chhaju Singh “with immediate effect for not taking effective action against bootleggers of Marrori village in Samana”.
Sidhu has also sought explanation from Samana DSP Rajwinder Singh for his loose supervision, ineffective control over subordinates before writing to higher authorities for charge-sheeting him.
The officer maintained that SHO and police post in-charge were found ineffective or hand in glove with bad elements.
“On receipt of secret information, Patiala SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu ordered surprise raids. In the morning, about 50 policemen, including women cops, led by Samana CIA in-charge Vijay Kumar, raided Marori village. During raids, it is found that illegal and country made liquor is distilled in large quantity in Marori village,” said a police officer.
Notably, huge quantity of lahan was recovered from secret underground bunkers made in houses and on Ghaggar river bed.
In the matter, six FIRs were registered against 18 persons. In all, 50 liters of illicit liquor was recovered, and about 5,000 litres of lahan was destroyed.
