Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor is new Haryana DGP

A 1990 -batch IPS officer, Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor on Wednesday assumed the charge as the new Director General of Haryana Police. Kapoor has taken over from PK Agrawal, who retired on Tuesday.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had earlier shortlisted three Haryana-cadre IPS officers – R C Mishra and Mohd Akil, both 1989-batch officers, and Kapoor – for the post. The State Government selected Kapoor as the next DGP with P K Agrawal’s term ending Tuesday. Sources said that State Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was keen to pick Kapoor as the new DGP of the State. Kapoor has been appointed for a minimum period of at least two years.

Within an hour after Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya issued the orders, Kapoor took charge from Agrawal in a formal ceremony organised at Haryana police headquarters in Panchkula. Until now, Kapoor had been serving as the director general of the anti-corruption bureau. He had been known among the officers in the good books of the chief minister. RC Mishra, a 1989 batch IPS officer and the CMD of Haryana Police Housing Corporation, topped the list, followed by Muhammad Akil, a 1990 batch officer who currently serves as the director general of prisons in Haryana. This marks the second instance of Akil's name being included in the UPSC panel. The first time was during the appointment of PK Agrawal as DGP.

State Home Minister Anil Vij was paid a courtesy call by Kapoor in Ambala after assuming charge. During this courtesy call, they discussed various activities and issues related to law and order and also shared their experiences, a statement said.
