Punjab Police on Sunday claimed that they had shared the details of “fair and transparent investigation” into the Moga incident with the victims’ family, which was under the misapprehension that they had not filed a first information report (FIR) in the case. “The victim's family had apprehensions regarding investigation. There was a rumour that an FIR has not been registered, but we showed them FIR. Certain elements were creating such rumours to mislead the family. However, we shared with the family the entire investigation we have undertaken so far has been in a fair and transparent manner,” said Moga senior Superintendent of Police JS Khaira.

“All the four accused were arrested within 24 hours of the incident, while the vehicle has also been impounded. The family was also under the misapprehension that the people arrested were not those who had committed the crime, so a boy who was travelling in bus that day was called to identify them. After that, the family has been fully satisfied,” he added.

Meanwhile, Moga Deputy Commissioner of Police PS Gill stated that the victim's family has been given Rs20 lakh as compensation. “We have given the family Rs20 lakh as compensation…Rs four lakh for the education of child and Rssix lakh from National Commission,” he said.
