Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Shanta Kumar has expressed deep anguish and abhorrence over the unfortunate emergence of the anti-national and disruptive elements, who were out to disrupt the unity and the integrity of the country at the behest of enemy country and traitors within the country.
Spurning the slogans raised by a fraction of students in JNU campus and another university of West Bengal, Shanta Kumar said leaders of a particular ideology were causing an irreparable damage to the social and religious fabric of friendship and brotherhood between Hindus and Muslims continuing for centuries just for narrow political ends. These people were polluting the academic climate of the universities by distracting the attention of the students from education to politics and non-issues.
He warned such elements and leaders of political parties against playing with fire for the sake of votes as their anti-national postures were going to boomerang on them and their very existence was going to be decimated by the patriotic majority of India.
Shanta Kumar lamented that the traitors seemed to have mocked at the sacrifices of the brave martyr who had been buried 35 feet deep snow slided from atop the Siachen glacier and whose dead bodies arrived at the capital only last week.
Those demanding Azadi were the agents of Pakistan and must be dealt with an iron hand. He said the students of West Bengal who raised anti-India slogans must be ashamed of their conduct and look back to the year 1953 when the lion of Bengal, Dr Shyamas Prasad Mukerji, had made the supreme sacrifice by revolting against the “vicious permit system” for entering Kashmir which had by then become an integral part of India following accession treaty signed between Raja Hari Singh of Jammu and Kashmir and government of India on the lines of hundreds of other petty States in the country.
He said Prime Minister Nehru had complicated the Kashmir issue when on one fin e morning under a fit of emotion he made an imprudent announcement of plebiscite which, according to legal experts, is not tenable under law as duly executed instrument of accession cannot supersede verbal outburst. Raja Hari Singh had signed the instrument of accession in presence of his advisor, Mehar Chand Mahajan, former chief justice of India. Moreover, neither the sovereign rulers in India had sought the opinion of their subjects not India and Pakistan had been divided through plebiscite, Shanta argued.
It is not out of place here to mention that Shanta Kumar, then a youth of only19 years had also courted arrest in 1953 and remained in Jail for 9 months in Kashmir. Dr Shyama Prasad Mukerji had died in jail. At least youths of West Bengal should hang their heads in shame for raising pro-Pakistan slogans forgetting their hero.
Referring to Congress and left parties Shanta said the less said the better as they were digging their own graves. People will teach them a befitting lesion. let the left parties introspect and find who ruined the industry of West Bengal and rendered the people destitute by spreading the culture of anarchy.
