SGPC urges Sushma, Pak ambassador to ensure Sikhs' safety

The Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), known as Sikhs’ mini parliament, on Monday sought to ensure safety of Sikhs in Pakistan, who are in minority there.

Following series of attacks on the Sikhs in Pakistan, the SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar has shot off separate communiqués to the Union Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and the Pakistan’s ambassador in India urging them to ensure their safety.

Besides, Makkar has also urged the two to put pressure on the Pakistan government to identify the accused at the earliest and punish them as per the law of the land.

Expressing serious concerns over the attacks, Makkar accused the Pakistan government for not being sincere at all in protecting the Sikhs in their country who are in minority there.

He pointed that in the past several days, the Sikhs were being attacked continuously in separate incidents in which Jagmot Singh was attacked in Peshawar, while Harjit Singh and Amarjit Singh were beaten to death in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Makkar emphasized on the dire need to eliminate the prevailing hatred across the country in Pakistan against Sikhs.

“It is most unfortunate that accused who attacked Sikhs are roaming scot free, and the Pak-government is adopting a laid-back attitude towards them,” he said.
