SGPC rejects Sarbat Khalsa's resolutions

The Executive Committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), known as Sikhs’ mini parliament, on Friday unanimously rejected the decisions announced at November 10 Sarbat Khalsa at Chabba village near Amritsar.

SGPC executive committee took this decision at its emergent meeting held on Friday.

The meeting slammed the appointment of new Takht jathedars (head priests) and other decisions announced at this conclave as a “deep rooted conspiracy to create confusion among the Sikhs”.

The meeting also condemned slogan shouting and protests by radical Sikh outfits in Darbar Sahib complex on Bandi Chhod Diwas during Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh’s address.

SGPC spokesperson said that November 10 conclave was organised under a “nefarious” design to damage the Akal Takht and the SGPC. This conclave appointed new jathedars in violation of the panthic traditions without evolving consensus, said the spokesperson.

The meeting held that the ruckus was created in the Golden Temple Complex on Diwali to disrupt the tradition address by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, the statement read. The sanctity of the Golden Temple was attacked by a person who climbed Darshani Deodi and hit a window with his foot to force open it, said the spokesperson.

Out of the 15 members, those present included Kewal Singh Badal, Dyal Singh Kolianwali, Rajinder Singh Mehta, Gurbachan Singh Karmuwala, Surjit Singh Garhi, Mohan Singh Bangi, Rampal Singh Behniwal and Nirmail Singh Jaulakalan.
