SGPC chief on hit-list, security firmed up

Published on:

The president of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Avtar Singh Makkar is all set to get a bullet-proof car and more security guards as his name apparently is in the terrorists’ hit-list.

Fresh intelligence reports have claimed that the name of SGPC chief is in the terrorists’ hit list, and there is possibility of attack on him. Acting on the inputs, Punjab Government has beefed up Makkar’s security by providing him a bullet proof car — something that has happened for the first time in SGPC’s recent history.

Besides, Makkar has also been provided 20 commandos in addition to the Punjab police personnel already deployed for his security purposes. The head of the Sikhs’ mini parliament, dominated by the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), claimed that he had been getting death threats lately. At the same time, neither the Punjab police nor the security officers have disclosed any name or group from which the threat is likely.
