The sex ratio of district Gurugram has increased to 950 girls per 1,000 boys in the month of January this year which is the highest sex ratio in the history of the district.

The achievement came out in the meeting of District Advisory Committee convened to effectively implement the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act in the district, held at Gurugram on Tuesday.

Presiding over the meeting, the District Appropriate Authority-cum-Civil Surgeon, Dr BK Rajora informed that the sex ratio has improved considerably due to the strict measures taken against those engaged in sex determination tests.

He said recently, Gurugram team has also conducted a raid at Kaithal and arrested three persons involved in such tests. This was the 29th raid of Gurugram team.

He said in the near future, raids would be conducted at 2-3 places on the basis of the information received in his office and in the office of Deputy Commissioner. The official said that the State Government had announced an award of Rs 1 lakh who would provide information about persons involved in sex determination tests, and name of the informer would not be disclosed.

It was decided in the meeting that the ultrasound machines of IVF Centre Bourn Hall International would be sealed and to suspend their registration under the PCPNDT Act. A case would also be registered against Dr Punita for misusing the ultrasound machine. Only Dr Anjali and Dr Priya were authorised to conduct ultrasound in this centre, however, Dr Punita was also conducting ultrasound, which was violation of the rules.

The registration of five more ultrasound centres was approved in the meeting on the condition that they fulfil all the formalities of the PCPNDT Act. After the registration of these ultrasound centres, the number of such centres in the district would increase to 212.
