A young woman, who claimed to be an IT professional, has been arrested in Punjab’s Amritsar city after her latest complaint of having being raped by a hotel executive turned out to be false, police said on Tuesday. The woman has been booked for extortion.
Police officials said the woman made her latest complaint of rape in Amritsar. The earlier complaint was made in Chandigarh against a young executive of a five-star hotel, who was arrested and is now in judicial custody. Amritsar’s Addl Deputy Commissioner of Police (City-II) Gautam Singhal told media that the woman was arrested after her complaint of having been raped by the manager of a hotel in Queens Road turned out to be false.
Police had first booked the hotel manager for rape following her complaint on Sunday. She had alleged that the manager had physical relations without her consent and had stolen `35,000 from her room.
Singhal said the woman, who arrived in Amritsar by a flight on May 18 from New Delhi tried to check into a leading hotel chain near the Amritsar airport but the hotel staff got suspicious of her antecedents and refused her a room.
