Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has achieved another milestone in its programme for Renovation, Modernisation & Uprating (R,M&U) of its existing hydro power plants by successful R,M&U of another 108 MW hydro generating of Bhakra left Bank to 126 MW this week
\\This successful R,M&U was the second in the series of 5 units. BBMB has been able to enhance the capacity of each unit by 40 per cent which is the highest in the world reported so far. The first unit was successfully uprated in July this year.
Officials said in such type of uprating, comprehensive reverse engineering is involved, including R&D activities, as space available in permanent civil structure remains the same wherein new designed unit of higher capacity is to be fitted. BBMB has been a pioneer in R,M&U of hydro power units in the country. So far, BBMB has added 347 MW through uprating which is 63.2% of the total uprating of the country.
