This is not the first time when Haryana Government is facing the wrath of its own employees. The Bhupinder Singh Hooda Government is facing the second Statewide strike of employees in the last over nine years of its rule. The employees had earlier gone on strike in 1987 during the Congress Government led by Bansi lal, demanding implementation of the 4th pay commission, regularisation of daily wage employees and interim relief. The Bansi lal Government not only terminated 11000 employees but also put them in jails. Thereafter he lost Assembly elections. In 1989, Devi lal came to power and revoked the victimisation of employees and reinstated them in service.
But he too had to face the resentment of employees on regularisation issue. He too put some employees in jails and subsequently lost the elections. In 1993, Bhajan lal formed the Government and employees put forward several demands. He terminated 30,000 employees and imposed ESMA. later, he too lost the polls. In 1996, Bansi lal again formed the Govt with BJP and he terminated 5500 employees besides suspending hundreds. He too lost the next election. Though Chief Minister Hooda had announced several benefits for the employees in Gohana rally last year and most of them are being implemented in Jan 2014, but employees are not satisfied with these and want more. “We have decided to go for complete strike across the state. If State Government tries to suppress our agitation, we can convert it in to an indefinite strike,” said Davinder Singh Hooda, president of All Haryana Power Corporation Workers Union.
