In the absence of sufficient playgrounds and open spaces for kids to play in the city, the UT Administration has decided to allow children to play in school playgrounds after school hours.
In a unique initiative to promote sports and nurture young talent, the schools would allow the children staying in the locality to play in the evening. The UT Administration on Wednesday agreed to MCC proposal to allow the use of grounds of Government Model Senior Secondary School Sector-21 here for sporting activities of children of the school and children residing in the vicinity of this school.
A senior official of the UT Administration said the decision had been taken to provide some space for sports activities of children residing in the vicinity of the said school and keeping in view the fact that these children do not have adequate space available for their sporting activities in Sector 21.
“later, more Government schools would be opened in the evening hours for children of the vicinity,” he added. The UT Administration has also specified terms and conditions for the opening the school for playing purposes in the evening hours. Under the terms and conditions, the control and management of the ground would stay with school authorities. And, the timings would be fixed by the school authorities and the grounds would remain under their control.
Also, the Municipal Corporation would provide two persons for maintenance of the grounds in lieu of providing the above facility of sports activities for children residing in the local area. In case of any damage caused to the school property due to sports activities, the cost of repairs would be borne by the Municipal Corporation.
