Punjab police on Friday booked a father-son duo, having allegiance to the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, for allegedly slapping and jostling a ‘pregnant’ nurse at a private hospital in Moga district.
A case has been registered against sarpanch Daljit Kaur's husband Paramjit Singh and their son Gurjeet Singh. Daljit Kaur is the sarpanch of Alamwala village in Moga district.
Confirming the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Snehdeep Sharma said that the accused have been booked.
The duo was booked after a video went viral on social media, showing them assaulting nurse Ramandeep Kaur, who eight weeks pregnant, at Gupta Hospital in Bagha Purana town.
The father-son duo was also seen on CCTV shouting at the hospital staff and then confronting the nurse when she tried to intervene.
“They slapped, pushed and hit me despite my pleas to spare me because of my condition,” Kaur informed the police. “They threatened us by saying that they were from the sarpanch's family,” said the clinic owner Rahul Gupta.
The duo was reportedly upset over not being given preferential treatment after the nurse told them to wait to get their patient admitted at the hospital.
Paramjit Singh, who is also a local Akali leader, wanted the hospital staff to admit the patient without delay. The nurse asked them to wait for two minutes so that she could call the doctor. The duo, however, was reluctant to wait and soon started quarrelling with her. Paramjit slapped the nurse and when she resisted, he allegedly pushed her.
“The Akali leader wanted VIP treatment. He did not want to wait for the doctor to get his patient admitted at the hospital,” the nurse claimed. “The SAD leader’s son too hit me in front of my colleagues,” she alleged, adding the duo also used derogatory language against her.
Police have recorded the statement of the nurse and action would be taken against the accused, said SHO Gurmail Singh Sekhon.
Hang culprits from lamppost, demands Capt
Chandigarh: Condemning the brutal thrashing of a pregnant nurse at a Bhaga Purana hospital allegedly by two “Akali goons”, Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday demanded them to be “hanged from the lamp post”.
Issuing a warning to the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, he said: “Better tame your goons lest they will be lynched by people as public anger is mounting against you.”
“While the Akalis are already known for the criminal intimidation and arm-twisting of people, the recent incident at Bhaga Purana is disgusting and shameful and the culprits deserve to be hanged from the lamp post,” said Capt Amarinder.
AAP CHAllENGES HARSIMRAT TO ACT AGAINST AKAlI SARPANCH
Chandigarh: Criticizing the Akali leader for thrashing a nurse at a private clinic at Baghapurana, Punjab’s AAP women wing head Prof Baljinder Kaur demanded strict action against the people responsible for the heinous act.
Akalis, in hangover of power, are indulging in anti-social activities every day, she said, after meeting the victim Ramanjeet Kaur at her village, Kotla Mehar Singh Wala.
AAP spokesperson and senior leader Yamini Gomar said that Harsimrat always pretend to raise issue related to women but fail to act against goons of her own party. Akali leaders are shielding the culprits in the case, she added.
