Sounding poll bugle in Dhuri Assembly segment, only a day after the seat fell vacant, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said Sangat Darshan (public meeting exercise), organised in Dhuri, “is not associated to politics, rather development and prosperity are the sole aim of the State Government.
Badal’s statement assumes significance as the State Congress party has already submitted a complaint on Tuesday urging the Election Commission of India to restrain Punjab Chief Minister from holding “politically-motivated” sangat darshans in Dhuri Assembly segment “to strengthen his party SAD at the cost of public exchequer”.
Badal, addressing people from different villages of the Dhuri assembly segment on the first day of his sangat darshan program, clarified that the sangat darshan program was not related to impending elections in constituency after its MlA has submitted resignation. “It has been decided to hold a sangat darshan program in one assembly segment each of Majha and Doaba, while sangat darshan programs would be held in two Assembly constituencies of Malwa every month and under this pattern, the sangat darshan is being organised in Dhuri,” elaborated Badal.
Terming sangat darshan programs far from political hue, he said that he has always accorded top priority to sangat darshan programme as it was the best way to redress the people’s grievances at a single platform on one hand, besides ensuring unbridled development in a democratic set up thereby bridging communication gap between Government and the masses.
On Delhi assembly elections, Badal said that the SAD-BJP alliance would contest the elections with complete coordination and unity. “The alliance would mark a big victory and the coalition Government would be set up in Delhi,” he said.
