Sajjan Kumar to face murder trial

Welcoming Supreme Court’s verdict directing Congress leader and prime accused in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case Sajjan Kumar to face murder trial, Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday maintained that the judgment has rekindled hope in the Sikh community for getting justice.

The Apex Court on Tuesday quashed the Congress leader’s petition directing him to face the murder trial in a case related to anti-Sikh riots in Sultanpuri area in 1984. “The fresh verdict of the Supreme Court has once again rekindled the hope in the Sikh community for getting justice,” said SAD secretary and spokesperson Daljeet Singh Cheema.

“Even after 30 years of the most heinous crime directed against the Sikhs, they have been denied justice only because of the open support of the Congress to the prime accused. The accused leaders have been playing tricks with judiciary by misusing legal procedure only to delay the trial,” said Cheema. The SAD leader said that the community is looking forward to the free and fair trial of the case and subsequent delivery of justice to the victims of the worst ever massacre in which thousands of innocent people were killed.

Reacting to SC’s decision, SAD’s Delhi unit chief and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee’s president Manjit Singh GK said that it took 29 years that the perpetrators of 1984 carnage against Sikhs would face trial. “Congress government stands exposed for favouring Sajjan Kumar as it has made him MP and when his candidature was opposed by Sikhs in 2009 general elections, his brother was made candidate from South Delhi constituency. And now his son Jagparvesh is contesting delhi polls from Sangam Vihar constituency which clearly shows that Congress is supporting killers of Sikhs,” said GK.
