SAD workers protest against Punjabi farmers' displacement

Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) workers, coming to Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally in Jagraon, were stopped at Punjabi Bhawan on Sunday.

Before moving towards Jagraon, SAD (A) workers huddled at Punjabi Bhawan from where they were not allowed to proceed further.  Holding black flags as a mark of protest against the displacement of several Punjabi farmers from the border areas of Gujarat, SAD workers raised slogans against Modi and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for hurting sentiments of the people of State.

The SAD (A) members alleged that Modi was responsible for the displacement of more than 60,000 Sikhs from Gujarat that has hurt the sentiments of the people of Punjab. The party has also written a letter to Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil through the deputy commissioner of ludhiana stating that arrival of Modi could disturb peace in the State.
