With the announcement of Assembly elections in Delhi, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday warned the Congress to desist from attempting to brow beat Sikhs on the eve of Assembly elections in Delhi by discontinuing free electricity supply to the flats of victims of the 1984 Sikh massacre in the Tilak Vihar area.
In a statement issued here, general secretary and spokesman of SAD Prem Singh Chandumajra said the Congress Government had earlier given sub-standard flats along with free power to the victims of the 1984 Sikh massacre in Delhi. He alleged that instead of renovating the flats, the Government was now in the process of withdrawing free power facility extended to the victims.
Chandumajra said the victims of the 1984 massacre were now also facing other problems, including being deprived of adequate water supply. Asserting that these actions were prove of the real face of the Congress, which had always discriminated against the Sikh community, he said it seemed the Sheila Dikshit-led Delhi Government was trying to browbeat the Sikhs of Tilak Vihar into voting for the Congress in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
The SAD leader said the Sikhs of Delhi knew about the real face of the Congress and had recently even voted out the Congress supported faction of Paramjit Singh Sarna in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) elections. “Now the Sikhs of Delhi are waiting to teach the Congress a befitting lesson in the forthcoming Assembly elections and wholeheartedly support the SAD-BJP in the polls”, he said.
