SAD urges Prez to declare financial emergency in India

Appealing the President Pranab Mukherjee to declare financial emergency in the country, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday asserted that Congress-led UPA Government has no moral right to govern after the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Governor blamed it for sinking rupee.

“After RBI Governor D Subbarao has squarely blamed Congress-led UPA for the domestic currency’s pathetic slide, it has no moral authority to govern the country,” said Punjab Revenue and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.  Majithia also appealed the President to declare financial emergency in the country keeping in view the present precarious financial situation created by the UPA regime.

RBI Governor minced no words in highlighting the Union government’s total failure in tackling the most sensitive issue of economy of the country.  Majithia, interacting with media persons, said that RBI was an independent and statutory body with impeccable integrity and its Governor’s outburst was not momentary rather it shows how the Finance Minister was desperately trying to impinge on its autonomy.  “A day before, Tata group’s former head Ratan Tata had clearly indicted the present Union government for failing to control the notable devaluation of Rupee. It is not just the concern of India’s business houses but also a reflection on UPA policies which has led the country into a deep financial crisis,” said Majithia.

He said that the concerns of country’s top business houses were indication of more hard days as Congress-led UPA government seemed to have indifferent to all advices of financial experts. Majithia dared State Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari “to also demand imposition of financial emergency in country in the Parliament to prove their commitment for the motherland”. He asked Bajwa to raise issues affecting Punjab’s interests; due to bias approach of Congress-led UPA government, in the Parliament rather enacting dramas for some media coverage in the State.
