SAD urges Centre for 'embargo' on MSG

Citing possibility of “communal discord”, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday urged the Centre to put an “embargo” on the screening or release of the controversial movie — MSG: The Messenger, featuring Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda sect head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The appeal, to ban the release and screening of controversial movie in the wake of communal disorder and law and order situation, was made by the party’s MP Prem Singh Chandumajra and senior leader Sher Singh Ghubaya.

They contended that the movie has created a lot of tension in the society and it should be “banned immediately in the interest of communal harmony”. “The main character of the movie, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, has always been in headlines due to his contradictory religious plots. The promotion, marketing and release of this movie should be banned across the country to avoid any communal disharmony,” they stressed.

SAD leaders pointed that few years back, Gurmeet Ram Rahim had deliberately created a massive controversy in the State by wearing the attire similar to Sikhs’ tenth master which fanned communal violence in the State. “This is again the same act, which could bring same environment in the State so it should be banned immediately,” they said.
