Making an apparent attempt to regain lost ground ceded in February 2017 Punjab Assembly polls, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday decided to contest the upcoming Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections on the party symbol — the balancing scale.
SAD has also decided to establish its party offices in all districts of the State.
“Besides contesting the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections on the party symbol, the party would also contest elections to the ludhiana Municipal Corporation with full fervour,” declared SAD president Sukhbir Badal while presiding over a meeting of general secretaries, presidents of party wings, legislators, former MlAs as well as district presidents on Wednesday.
Sukhbir said that the party would depute its senior leadership at ludhiana to guard against foul play by the Congress party. “We will not let democracy be throttled by the Congress party,” he said adding that the party would jointly face any attempt to repress its party cadre.
He also asked the new district presidents to establish party offices within one month. The party, on its part, would establish a befitting office at Amritsar, he said while also announcing that the party would, henceforth, form its organization ward-wise in urban areas.
The new district presidents were also asked to form their teams including a core group which would fan out in the district and interact with the people.
“Our intention is to reach out to everyone and tell them about the utter failure of the Congress government, be it implementing the promised loan waiver for farmers or providing job opportunities to youth to increasing the ambit of social welfare schemes,” said the SAD chief to the party leaders. Sukhbir also announced that he would visit all constituencies and also take feedback from the people. “I will also interact with party workers during these visits and take direct feedback from them”, he added.
