Devising a proactive strategy to blunt the opposition’s attack on the issue of SYl canal, the ruling alliance has planned to bring a motion on the issue in the Vidhan Sabha. As Congress has already moved an Adjournment motion on the issue of SYl.
The Government wants to discuss the matter in detail in the House and is ready to take on centre on SYl. To discuss the strategy of the party for the Budget session, Shiromani Akali Dal convened a meeting of its legislators on Tuesday after the Governor’s address on the inaugural day of the Budget session. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal both attended the meeting. According to the sources, deliberations primarily were centered on the issue of SYl, on which the government has been finding itself in a tough corner after the Centre’s submissions in the Supreme Court a fortnight back. The Centre had opposed the Punjab Termination of Waters Act, passed by the State Assembly in 2004 under the tenure of Capt Amarinder Singh as Chief Minister of the state.
