SAD extends help to Majithia

Former Congressmen who have now joined Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), on Wednesday came out in support of Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia

SAD leader and former Congress Minister Avtar Singh Brar urged the State Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa to introspect on his family background before starting any campaign against the State Government in league with drug lord Jagdish Bhola.  Brar claimed that it was a commonly held view in Majha that Bajwa's father, Satnam Bajwa, was a "renowned drug smuggler", and his family was also known to be involved in land grabbing and brazen lawless activities.

"Bajwa's brother Fatehjang Singh Bajwa had been interrogated by the Punjab Police during the days of militancy. A photograph of interrogation was published in a leading news magazine. It is a tragedy of our times that such a person has not only been made general secretary of the Punjab Congress but has also been given control of the party office in Chandigarh," said Brar.

Pointing towards alleged letter of former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to the party president Sonia Gandhi, Brar said Bajwa's "nefarious activities" were disclosed in detail by Capt Amarinder, who had first-hand knowledge about his activities because of inputs received from the Intelligence agency during his tenure as Chief Minister.

"It is ironic that the Congress high command has chosen such a person who has been accused of being hand-in-glove with the drug mafia in Punjab to lead the Punjab Congress," he added. Urging the Chief Minister to take action against Bajwa for usurping shamlat land, Brar also urged that the inquiry conducted into Bitumen Scam during Bajwa's term as Public Works Minister should be put in the public domain "so that the people could see his real face and ensure his ouster from politics permanently".
