SAD demands probe into councillors' detention

Published on:

Taking a serious view of the “illegal detention and humiliation” of four SAD-BJP councillors of Faridkot civic body by Zirakpur police a day before, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident and strict action against the guilty police officials at the earliest.

SAD alleged that the ruling Congress party has “gone berserk” after coming to power and they are “indulging in vindictive politics” throughout the state.

“On one side, political murders are being committed by the ruling party leaders, and on the other side, the democracy is being murdered by forcefully dislodging elected representatives of civic bodies, co-operative bodies and truck union chiefs etc,” accused the former Cabinet Minister and senior Akali leader Daljit Singh Cheema.

He alleged that all this was happening in the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s full knowledge and was “highly condemnable” that one after other these incidents are regularly on the increase.

“It is deplorable that the administration as well as the police have failed to work independently to give justice to the opponents. Rather they are toeing the line of the ruling masters,” he added.

Divulging all details of the incident which took place at Zirakpur, Cheema showed video clips of the CCTV cameras of the hotel A1 during the press conference.

Cheema, accompanied by party’s senior youth leader and SOI co-ordinator Parambans Singh Bunty Romana, said that all four coucillors were detained at the behest of Faridkot MlA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon.

MlA wanted these councillors to support No-Confidence Motion moved by the Congress party against Faridkot MC chief Uma Grover.

Refuting police version that these four councillors were picked up from hotel on the basis of secret information, Cheema asked the police to explain that if they were detained on some secret information, then how a Congress councillor Vickey Brar from Faridkot and Karamjit Singh Dhillon’s PA were present at the hotel at the time of police raidIJ

“Both of them are clearly visible in the CCTV coverage. They accompanied police and identified the councillors and only then they were detained,” he said.

“Secondly, on reaching the police station, the SHO of the area contacted Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon on phone and also forced the councillors to talk to him. This clearly shows that police had gone out of its purview and indulged in political conspiracy to help the ruling Congress party to topple the democratically elected MC chief,” alleged Cheema.

The party demanded strict action against all the guilty police officials after a high level independent inquiry and strict punishment to all the guilty police officials who illegally detained Faridkot MC councillors.
