Demanding a high level probe into the alleged ‘building notice racket’ in Patiala Municipal Corporation, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday termed it a big scandal of corruption, where crores of rupees were being extorted by the MC officials by sending bogus notices to the owners of commercial buildings.
SAD’s senior vice president and spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said that a report has exposed Congressmen’s corrupt practices. “The State Government has brazenly misused the state machinery to secure 59 out 60 seats for the Congress councillors in Patiala Municipal Corporation and has also appointed the Mayor arbitrarily,” he said.
“Now, the Chief Minister should come clean on why the Congressmen were looting the people by indulging in corrupt practices on such a large scale,” he added.
Cheema said that corruption was rampant everywhere in the State as it had crossed all limits during the Congress regime. “The million dollar question is that if the Congressmen don’t even hesitate to extort money from the people in the Chief Minister’s home town, who will protect them in other parts of the state?” he added.
SAD leader demanded that a stern action be taken against the culprits after holding a probe into this scam besides the money extorted from the people by the erring officials must be refunded immediately.
