SAD demands arrest of ASI who molested woman and daughter

Demanding immediate registration of a criminal case and arrest of a police station in-charge for allegedly sexually molesting a Muslim woman and her daughter at Zirakpur two days back, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday warned to move the Punjab and Haryana High Court if no action is taken.

The party also demanded formation of a judicial commission to probe the incident so that appropriate action could be taken against the ASI and all other police personnel who colluded in the alleged sexual molestation of the Muslim lady and her daughter.

“In case, the district administration and the police continued to remain unmoved and did not register a criminal case against the accused police official and removed him from his post immediately, SAD would take up the issue in the Punjab and Haryana High Court,” said the former Minister and SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema.

Cheema said: “It is both shocking and shameful that no case had been registered against the Baltana chowki in-charge in Zirakpur who beat up, threatened and sexually molested a woman and her daughter when they went to the police chowki on Tuesday evening to look for their relative who had been detained there illegally.”

Giving the sequence of events, Cheema said that the woman rushed to the chowki after learning that her son Mobin Khan had been taken there. “Thana officials said that her son was not there but when she searched the premises, she found him detained in a room. When the woman questioned the police personnel as to why they had lied to her, the chowki in-charge ASI Narinderpal Singh got enraged and started abusing her,” said Cheema.

He added, “According to her own statement, the ASI kicked her repeatedly and molested her besides tearing her salwar and also the suit of her daughter.”

Cheema said the Punjab Woman Commission had been apprised of the case. Even the case had also been brought to the government’s notice a day before, but no action has been taken in the matter, he added.

“In fact, the woman has been subjected to a restraining order to silence her. She is also being forced to compromise with the threat that otherwise her son will be implicated in more cases...,” he said.
